My Ode To Milk

Growing up in a family of 8 kids, sometimes my mom did not always have time to make a cooked breakfast meal. So she went the way of cold cereal. Which we were completely content with. At times I would look forward to waking up and eating cold cereal because my mom had bought our favorite cereal. But the thing that makes cold cereal cold and delicious is the ice cold milk. Sometimes the cereal was there, but the milk was not. But we did not give up there we would try cold water...... not so good. We would try hot chocolate because it has a powder milk base.............. but its hot! Nothing works better than Milk. I love milk. I was a food storage baby and would sometimes get stuck with the chunky warm powder milk. When we would get that I would miss milk more than ever, and by then skim milk was like sweet mana from heaven. Once I moved out on my own, I loved buying milk and my favorite cereal and eating it to my hearts content. Sometimes for all three meals. However I fell in love with a girl who does not like milk..... why you ask? I have no idea. Its wonderful. So you may be asking where does she get her calcium? ( Because we all know milk is healthy and good for us, and helps us grow big and strong.) She takes calcium supplements. I know she is slapping milk right in the face. But with me being the only one in our house drinking milk I have to buy those small, almost embarrassing half gallon jugs. I constantly received judging eyes from people every time I pull the half gallon off the shelf. But I am working with her... do not worry one gallon size milk jug your day will come soon enough where you will find yourself in our nice cold fridge, and you will be poured over our favorite cereal and back into my life ( hopefully our life) soon enough.

We Keep it Real

The title of this post will forever remind me of Danica Budge. Does anyone else agree with me?
Once again, S&J is too good to me! We had great seats at the Real Salt Lake soccer game this Saturday. Matt and Taylor came along with us to the game and it was a lot of fun.
Real beat Toronto 3-1.

Jake and Matt felt like doing some tricks on our way back to the car. I was too slow to get Matt's flips though. :( They could be gymnasts they were so great!

The Husband

Well... Here I am, Karlie's infamous husband. She has been asking me to add to this blog for months now, so here I am, throwing my hat into the ring. As you may have gathered from Karlie my name is Jacob Lester Mitchell. I hail from Tulsa Oklahoma where my dad was attending medical school. We bounced around to a few different places after Tulsa, Oregon, Three different towns in Idaho and finally Utah. My parents since have moved back up to Oregon country while a few of their six sons remain here in Utah. I am in my 26th year of life and to be honest I feel great! I am currently in school to follow in my dad's footsteps of becoming a doctor. Unfortunately I still have a ways to. I am a twin and older than him by five minutes. Anyway, I think that is enough about me for right now. I think the reason Karlie wants me to add to this blog is to see how I view our relationship and see what I have to say from time to time. So here is what I see in this relationship (besides whatever Karlie allows me to see....Love you sweetie) Karlie and I met at Raintree Apartments in Provo Utah. She was laying by the pool reading a book in her swimming suit. My first thought when I saw here were, "Dang, dat girl be fine!" She was so pretty that my mind could not even focus on proper sentence structure. But I was not about to be that guy who goes over to the pretty girl with his shirt off, flex  his pecs and say, " Hey, Hows it going?" Let's just say I am not the most forward guy when it comes to meeting women. I plan was just to sit back and some how get her attention and see where things go from there. Luckily fate was on my side. I had moved into a different apartment at Raintree during the summer with a bunch of complete strangers. Fortunately my roommate was Karlie's Ex-boyfriend, and he said, "Hey Jake, let's go swimming!" I said, "Sure!" and that was when I saw Karlie by the side of the pool. So my roommate seeing his ex-girlfriend said, "Hey! it's Karlie!" I looked over at him in disbelief. "How does he know this girl? and why haven't I met her yet?" I thought, while the same time not really caring why or how he knew and that could not wait to be introduced. We were shortly introduced and we started a simple conversation. She, at the time, was dating someone but thankfully it was about to end. My roommate later week put her phone number in  my phone and sent her a text for me, and we started talking. We met up a few times more after that in group settings and it started to become clear that we liked each other. One thing led to another and we were married on the Fourteenth of July 2010. I obviously left out a lot of details , but that is how we met and my side of it. Since we met we have had some great adventures, and I am grateful to have spent them with her. She is my life and I love her. Know that I have officially started blogging, I will start to show The Husband's side of our relationship. I will share stories that I am sure Karlie will not be happy about, but I call it as I see it.  Well thanks for your time and come back soon.

Welcome to Adulthood

So I didn't think that adulthood was actually a word, but I just spell checked it and... it is! Anyway, I realize that I have already posted three times today but while I have time I want to get all of this weekends activities in the blog before they are out dated. So... I'm 21! Yay! Jake was such a wonderful husband on my birthday just as he always is. On Saturday morning I woke up to this...
A room full of streamers that Jake decorated at 1:30 a.m. while I was peacefully sleeping in the same room. He is a sneaky one. It was definitely a big surprise. The streamers are still hanging in our room because they are just so much fun, it makes everyday life seem like a party! I also woke up to this...
My favorite breakfast, french toast! He also made the great kind that his mom makes with actual french bread! So delicious! Yes, we still have the same centerpiece from Matt and Taylor's wedding nearly a month ago, it's just so pretty... even if it is dying...

Later that day I had a soccer game which we won by 5, such a great birthday present! Then Jake and I just ran some last minute Father's Day errands and watched a movie. It was a nice relaxing day and I was so glad that Jake took the day off to be with me! That evening we went to dinner at Red Robin with Hailey, Todd, Kaylyn, Anisa, Katie and Dave, some of my most favorite people! Thanks for a wonderful dinner guys! I had a wonderful birthday! Thanks to everyone for the birthday wishes as well, love you all!

My Other Dad

I think I married into the greatest family and my Father-in-law is no exeption. He is one of the most caring guys I have ever met. He may not show it on his tough exterior, but he really is a sweet guy. All of his family  looks up to him a great deal; you can tell by the fact that several of his boys are already aspiring to go into the medical field just as he did. He raised a wonderful family and I am lucky enough to call one of his sons my husband! Happy Father's Day Hal!

We are really sad we didn't get to see him this Father's Day but we enjoyed our facetime chat Sunday night. Thank heavens for technology! We look forward to an Oregon trip in July!

Happy Future Father's Day

Since Jake celebrated Future Mother's Day for me I figured I could get him a few things for Future Father's Day. I got him a wooden Rubik's Cube to add to our collection, a pair of Jordan shorts, and a coupon book. (Idea courtesy of one of my best friends Kaylyn Swanson, thank you very much!) Here are a couple pictures of his special day.
His book included things like a chore avoider, dinner of his choice, dessert of his choice... stuff like that.

Such a handsome man my husband is!

My Dad

I think I have the greatest Dad around and I am so thankful to have him. He is just the coolest and I love him so much! Everyone that meets him can't help but love him. He would give the shirt off his back for anyone. He has never once let me down and I have never doubted how much he loves me. Happy Father's Day Dad!
Now here are some pictures of our Father's Day activities. I feel bad but I couldn't get any of my Dad's side of the family because I left my camera in the car.

This is my cousin's baby Crew, or as Jake likes to call him, Joban. He is so stinkin' cute! I love him!

Excuse these super blurry pictures but this is my mom's dad, Grandpa Roden.
Jake took this picture and told me I had to post it because it's so pretty. This is the view coming down from Mapleton into Springville. Pretty cool I think!

One Year Older and Wiser Too...

This Saturday is my 21st birthday and I will finally be an official adult! I decided to look back over my 20th year of life and see all the big exciting things that happened. Since I love lists, I'm going to do it in list form.

1. I married the man of my dreams (I promised myself not to be a teen bride and I made, even if it was only by about a month.)
2. We bought a car of our very own (This was a first for me, not for Jake)
3. I ran the Ragnar
4. Katie and Dave got married
5. James came home from his mission
6. Matt and Taylor got married
7. I became an aunt... twice! (The first time I married into becoming an aunt, but the second time Jackson was born and I was actually part of the family.)
8. I spent my first thanksgiving away from my family
9. I got in my first car accident... actually now that I think about it, two car accidents. Geez! (One of which is very memorable, it involves a bag and a necessary bathroom trip for those of you that have heard this embarrassing story.)
10. I learned how to cook a few things and they aren't half bad
11. Caden got his driving permit
12. I realized how old Caden is getting
13. I got one step closer to becoming a teacher (Graduation this winter!!!)
14. I inherited Jake's great friends (I'm so lucky! Thanks for being so cool guys!)
15. We started a blog!

I'm sure there are much more exciting things that I just can't think of, oh well! My 20th year was a great one, I look forward to what 21 brings!! We have lots of big plans for this upcoming year!

The Cages

Last night Jake and I went to the batting cages with my sister Katie and her husband Dave, and Dave's brother Richard,  and Jake's twin Matt and his wife Taylor. It was a family affair and we had a lot of fun!

Of course Richard, Dave and Jake had to ride the go-karts at the end of the night.

Matt you made it into the blog again! :)

The Bee's Game

This week S&J hooked us up with tickets to the Bee's Game along with a free dinner. It was lots of fun to see everyone from work outside of the normal working element. The perks of working for a company that sponsor lots of sporting events is great!
I thought this picture of Jake was super cool, just the outline!

Of course a Redbox to end the night, True Grit was great. I loved it.
We left the Bee's game early to get back to Springville and watch the Art City Days fireworks because we love them. I didn't take my camera though which is a bummer. Those fireworks always amaze me.
