This weekend was...

A soccer game. A fishing trip in 18 degree weather. An Ikea Trip. Assembling and painting furniture. A birthday dinner. A friend reunion. A great movie. Quality time with family. Laundary day. Putting finishing touches on the apartment.  A delicious Sunday dinner. Late nights. Sleep ins.

It was a good weekend I'd say.

Our House is a Home

We finally hung up our pictures and unpacked pretty much everything so in my mind, our house is finally a home. We still are lacking a bookshelf, chairs for our kitchen table, and cords to hook up our washer/dryer but we are well on our way to being fully established.

The Living Room:

The Kitchen - the washer won't always be in the dead center of the room... Also, notice the lack of counter space, another adjustment we are making.

 Our Bathroom

 The craftroom/office/guest room/storage room/study/extended closet.

 Our Room

Looking at the pictures our house looks really empty and bare but it really does look more welcoming once you get inside I promise. I guess that just means that everyone has to come and visit to see for yourself... :)

Our New Life

Now that Jake and I are all moved in we have some adjustments to make...

What we don't have:
We have no TV and thus far I love it! We no longer come home and plop in front of the TV for entertainment, it's so great! We talk more and we get things done quicker without the distraction of a TV looming in the background. There are so many fun things that we can do instead of zone out. Although, I might start getting bored quick and change my mind about the lack of television.

We have no microwave and thus far it's totally fine! This forces me to actually make meals instead of having frozen pizza every other night. Since we don't have a TV I also have more time to try out a bunch of Pinterest meals I've been itching to try out.

We have no garbage disposal and I don't care! This isn't really a problem for me, Jake seemed concerned at first... but he never used it in the first place so I think we will be just fine.

We have no dishwasher and I kinda don't love it! Since I am trying out all these fancy Pinterest meals, I tend to use every dish in our house and don't love the idea of cleaning all of them after slaving over a hot stove. (Ok, the meals aren't really that intense I'm just trying to make a point.)

We have no family right above our head which is a love/hate situation for me. I miss running upstairs to get some forgotten ingredients or just chat w/ the fam when Jake isn't home until late. Although, I don't miss the clicking of high heels at 7:00 Sunday morning or feeling like we are intruding when we laugh too loud at 11:30 on a Saturday night.

What we do have:
We do have a pretty pathetic shower and it's not my favorite. Coming from having a shower with two heads and tons of room, it's hard for me to adjust to a leaky pipe in the wall. Jake claims that it takes him back to the mission and he loves it even though the water pressure is minimal and he has to squat to wash his armpits. Thank heavens I'm short! :)

We do have great big windows that let in all the light and air we can handle and it is my favorite! We actually wake up in the mornings because we can see the sun! We also don't have to use the AC or turn on the lights all that often because of these spectacular windows, saving some money!!

We do have brand spanking new carpet and stove and it's the bomb.com. Everytime I open our door I get to devour the lovely smell of new carpet (one of my favorite smells next to the musty air conditioner when you turn on the car, yum!!). Everytime I cook I gaze at the shiny stove inside and out without a lick of burnt spagetti or broiled over potatoes and it makes me smile!

We do have super awesome neighbors and I couldn't be more excited! We can hang out with our friends without driving anywhere. Woot Woot!

We do have a great ward and it's great! I love that I'm not the youngest girl in relief society by at least 20 yrs anymore. I also love that there are about 50 babies in our ward that I often get distracted by, so cute!

We do have shorter commutes to work and school. Going from pretty much an hour to 30 minutes is insanely great! If Jake wanted, he could even walk to school - probably my favorite!

Even though I might complain a little bit about somethings, I couldn't be happier to be where we are now. We are finally on our own and somehow this has made us fall even more in love, Ididn't even know it was possible but somehow it happened.

My Big Sister

My big sister is my best friend and my greatest example. My big sister is pretty and smart. My big sister saves people's lives. My big sister has a huge heart and never stops loving. My big sister taught me how to play soccer and how to play nice with boys. My big sister tickled my back until I fell asleep many nights in the scary basement. My big sister let me share her friends and her clothes. My big sister brings me ice cream when I cry. My big sister will sing at the top of her lungs in my car to our favorite song. My big sister watches out for me and makes sure no one will hurt me. My big sister suffered much sorrow in trying, but now...

MY BIG SISTER IS HAVING A BABY!!!

I love you Katie and we couldn't be happier for you! Happy Mothers Day to you too! Thanks for everything!

Happy Mothers Day

I just wanted to give a shout out to my beautiful mother. She is an amazing lady and I am so lucky to call her my mom. Here are just a few reasons why she is so swell...

-She can clean like a mad woman!! I don't know anyone who has a more spotless home than my mothers. She vacuums at least twice a day, she makes her bed every morning, she dusts and sweeps multiple times a week, and just loves to be organized!!

-My mom knows everything about her kids lives... I'm not entirely sure what all of her sources are, but somehow she finds out about anything and everything. I remember hating this in high school but now I love it, she can just read me and knows exactly what to say.

-Susan Jensen may not be an athlete herself, but she sure has the attitude of an athlete. She will scream at the TV during U of U games, let the Real Salt Lake know what they are doing wrong, and clue the refs in that they don't know how to make a right call. This embarrasses me on a regular basis, but it's something I will always love about my mom. She always had my back and she's not afraid to speak her mind!

-My mother can carry on a conversation with ANYONE!! She always knows something about everyone. Whether it be a stranger in the store or a neighbor from 10 years ago, she always has something to chat about.

-Mom loves. She loves deep and hard. It's not easy for her to let go of those she loves either. I remember my mom crying for months after our dogs died because she just loved them so much. She reminds each of us how much she loves us each day too and I will forever be grateful for that.

-Sue has a whistle that you can spot from 3 blocks down. When we would play night games growing up everyone in the neighborhood learned my mom's whistle and knew when it was time to make our way home. I envy this whistle. To this day, Katie, Caden and I turn and run whenever we hear mom's whistle.

-Back flips ain't no thang for my mom. She will jump on the trampoline (while crossing her legs so nothing leaks out...) and show off her swivel hips and back handsprings because ya know, she was a gymnast once.

-My mom can't wait to have grandchildren! She acts like it doesn't matter when we have kids but we all know she is so excited. She loves babies so much!

-She is my mother! She raised me and my two wonderful siblings and I couldn't be more proud of the family that I have. She is an amazing woman and I love her with all my heart and I always will. Happy Mothers Day Mom!

Happy (Late) Birthday Mama Mitchell!!

Things have been crazy busy at work and with packing up to move I feel bad that this has taken so long but I want to wish a happy birthday to my mother-in-law Julie! I couldn't have asked for a better mother for my husband. She is such an amazing lady and I have so much to learn from her! So... Here's a list of the many things I love about Mama Mitchell:

- She can cook a mean meal for a huge group of people. Everytime we go out there or she comes here it's amazing how much food she can make and how great it tastes! It's not just about quantity, she's got the quality as well. Delicious! Not to mention that she has 6 full grown sons, 1 full grown husband, 4 daughter-in-laws, 2 daughters, and 3 grandchildren to feed... that's a lot of food! And her sons can definitely eat... I learned quickly in the Mitchell house that her food is very desirable and if you don't act fast, you don't eat... (Jake still applies this rule with just the two of us, sometimes life can be rough...)
- She has sent all 6 sons on missions around the world. Three to Brazil (Doug, Matt and Patrick), one to California (Ben), one to Mexico (Jake), and one to Honduras (James). What an incredible accomplishment!
- All of her children are well on their way to graduating college with great degrees leading to great careers. (So far a Lawyer and lots of doctors)
- She has maintained a loving relationship with her husband of many years which seems like a tough feat in the world these days. Such a great example for all of her children to look up to.
- Her family was raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She held many memorable family home evenings that her kids still talk about today. She served in many callings to touch many lives and spread the gospel to those that are in need.
- Julie knows how to make you feel truly loved! She makes sure you are happy and comfortable. She's the first to wish you a happy birthday, the first to congratulate you on a big accomplishment, and the first to console you when something hard has happened in life. She's knows what to say and how to say it perfectly and she always lets you know that someone out there is thinking about you.
- If I had to pick the most selfless person in the world, it would be Julie. Everyone will just be sitting around chatting or watching TV and Julie will always be up fixing food for us, cleaning the house, or preparing a different activity for us to do. She is constantly doing service or thinking of something nice to do for someone else. She is the first to think of others and the last to think of herself.
- She is a mom through and through. In my opinion, this is the best thing in the world. She knows how to comfort her kids, she is always thinking of them, she has creative activities, she loves unconditionally, she knows everything about them, she respects them but yet knows how to discipline them... she knows how to be a mom. She is going to be such a great help when I become a mom, she will show me the ropes.
- She's my mother-in-law and I love everything about her. This list is just a tiny preview as to all the amazing things she can do. Thanks for being such a great mom, love you!
