Tough Mudder

The Mitchell boys competed in the Tough Mudder this year up out in Tooele at the Miller Motor Sports Park. The 12.1 mile race consisted of over 20 obstacles including the ice enema (jumping into freezing water loaded with ice), funky monkey (inclined monkey bars), electric eel and electro-therapy (swimming through water with an electric current and running through live electrical wires), and many other draining obstacles. Not to mention that they were doing this in the cold October weather with a pretty mean wind chill factor at 8:00 in the morning. It was so much fun to watch them all and get to participate in the event a little bit as well. Julie (My mother-in-law, Taylor (my sister-in-law, married to Jake's twin or Nacho in the pictures below) and I all volunteered at the event. We had to be at the park at 6:00 a.m. to prepare for the event so it made for one long day for us as well as the boys. All in all, it was a fun weekend and we were glad that Doug, Hal and Julie were able to fly in for the race as well.

Happy Volunteers!!

For a portion of our volunteering Taylor and I got to shave mullets and mohawks for lucky contestants.

In these two pictures they were jumping from a 25 foot platform into a 15 foot deep pool of freezing water.

I think this picture of Matt is just awesome! Actually, all pictures of Matt at this race are just awesome. He was a celebrity at this race. People would constantly come up to him and want pictures with him.

Yet another awesome picture of Nachoooooo!!

This was the other station that Taylor and I volunteered at, Everest. This was a pretty intense obstacle, it was the second to last one and everyone was exhausted at this point after running 12 miles and fighting through really rough obstacles before this one. Watching the people help each other out and fight through it may have just made me tear up a little bit. For some reason, this kind of stuff gets me emotional...

Of course a picture of this little cutie, he was a champ through the freezing weather!

The after shot of the Tough Mudders with their greatly earned finisher bands!

Mrs. Mitchell is Back

On Monday I get to have my own little slice of heaven because I get to start teaching again.

Even though  it is only for 4 hours a day.
Even though I have to wake up at 5:30 a.m. to be in Herriman by 7:00.
Even though it is only for 2 months for a lady on maternity leave.
Even though it means I will be working two jobs totaling over 50 hours a week plus 3 hrs driving each day.
Even though it doubles my commuting time.
Even though I will be taking a pay cut.
Even though I had to jump through hoops just to get registered in the district to take the job.

I still couldn't be happier to be teaching again.

I will be teaching three 8th grade health classes at Fort Herriman Middle School and I am just thrilled!
I also really appreciate my current job at S&J being so wonderful and understanding and allowing me this chance to teach.

Here's to a very busy but very enjoyable 2 months!

Annual Fall Post

I have noticed that several blogs I'm following are making the annual fall post about how awesome it is, so I decided to jump on the bandwagon. Here are a few ways that I know that fall is here...

-I get to pull out my five pairs of slippers and wear them without my feet sweating like crazy
-We keep the windows open at home and save $$$ by not using the AC
-It's (more) acceptable to wear sweats (I would wear these constantly if I could)
-Jake makes excuses to stay at school to watch the football games since we don't have TV at home
-I wear jackets to work and don't take them off the whole day
-The nob in my car has gone from the blue side to the red side more permanently
-We have already been assigned our Christmas assignments and the task of shopping has become daunting
-Everything pumpkin and seasonal has entered the Pinterest world
-I learned that Jake is not a fan of haunted houses, but he loves corn mazes
-I realize I have no seasonal decorations and I should check out the Pinterest world more seriously
-All of the spring time romance has turned into full term mommies in the fall
-The massive amount of summer weddings has finally calmed down

All in all, I too am excited for this upcoming season. I know in a few months I will be ready for the blazing heat again, but for now, I embrace the season.

Jake's Birthday

Let the Celebration be documented:
It was  BYU birthday for Jake

Since our friend Joe's birthday was just the week before Jake's birthday we decided to do a double celebration. We first hit up the new Scheel's sports store... it's amazing! There was a Ferris Wheel in there and tons of photo ops and you better believe we took pictures at each and every one! :)

Our next stop was dinner at "The Garden" in the Joseph Smith Memorial building, it was a beautiful view and delicious food! Yummy!

Then our last stop was the Zoo!

We finished off the birthday weekend with cake and ice cream at my parents house. All in all I think it was a success. Happy Birthday Jacob!
